Istanbul Airport

Atatürk International Airport is the major international airport in Istanbul, Turkey. Located in Yeşilköy, on the European side of the city, it is 24 km (15 mi) west of the city centre. With passenger traffic of 28.5 million for the year 2008, it is projected to be among the top 40 airports in the world in terms of total passenger traffic and top-35 in terms of international passenger traffic. It is Europe’s 10th busiest airport.

Turkey is a Eurasian country that stretches across the Anatolian peninsula in western Asia and Thrace (Rumelia) in the Balkan region of southeastern Europe. Turkey borders eight countries: Bulgaria to the northwest; Greece to the west, Georgia to the northeast; Armenia, Azerbaijan (the exclave of Nakhichevan), and Iran to the east; and Iraq and Syria to the southeast. The Mediterranean Sea and Cyprus are to the south; the Aegean Sea and Archipelago are to the west; and the Black Sea is to the north.
